Most of these things that you seek a standard on are relative to the context of use. So the standards wouldn't be very helpful.
Even when you make standards, some people don't follow them. For example it's convention to put form labels at the top or to the left of the appropriate form field. Putting them below the field is just confusing.

Good article with valuable content. You did a nice job of making lemonade out of lemons. However, I think there may be another story here, and that is that most of the user experience thought leaders are so busy with billable work that they don't have the bandwidth to work on articles. Let's keep our fingers crossed that things stay that way. (We actually had a day during December when all 20 of our consultants were conducting billable work for cleints)
