Video Thumbnails are real important though YouTube makes it almost impossible to get the one you want without doing weird stuff to your video.
We have researched how to get the right image on YouTube since it changed in December 2008. It is a pain! Sometimes you just have to make the video longer than you want and add a long still image, but even that won't work all the time.
